HYPERPIGMENTATION

Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation, the official term for this condition, can be caused by any number of factors including sun damage, inflammation and hormones. Unfortunately, these things combine to make many look older than they years.

There are quite a few procedures that can help to eradicate brown spots such as:

  • Medical grade chemical peels – Prodigy 3
  • Medical Laser – IPL
  • Medical skin care
  • Medical / Surgical Needling

Medical Laser Devices such as intense pulse light (IPL) are probably the most common procedure for treating pigment issues. They can be highly effective, especially when combined with proper skincare. However, one laser treatment is not going to do the trick. It will take a series of treatments spaced out over time. If your pigment issues run deep, you may need to combine your laser procedure with another procedure such as a peel or microdermabrasion.

The right choice for you is going to depend on the degree of your pigment as well as your lifestyle.

The PRODIGY PEEL PRO “P3” SYSTEM combines resorcinol, lactic acid, salicylic acid coupled with a powerful “booster”, featuring an advanced form of salicylic acid, to provide an enhanced superficial to medium depth chemical peel, resulting in a brighter and more youthful complexion. This multi-tasking chemical peel works to powerfully target skin laxity, acne, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles and uneven skin texture – visibly improving skin imperfections, resulting in a renewed complexion. It can be used on most skin types but it is most suited to Fitzpatrick types I, II, and III. It is particularly beneficial to individuals with hyperpigmentation, ageing, and blemish-prone skin. The “P3” SYSTEM is self-neutralising and requires no neutralising products. Visible results will be noted after just one treatment; cumulative improvements will be noted after administering a series of treatments.

IPL devices deliver intense bursts of energy at specific wavelengths that accurately target components of the skin. The most common uses of IPL include facial redness, rosacea, spider veins around the face and legs, freckles, pigmentation, skin rejuvenation and acne. IPL emits powerful flashes of filtered light and a broad spectrum of wavelengths that penetrate below the surface of the skin where the brown pigment or melanin lives. The light energy converts to heat that destroys the area with a high concentration of melanin within sunspots and freckles. The pigment breaks down and rises into the skin surface as scabs as the natural body processes occur. IPL is effective by itself but a combination of treatments could enhance results further.

Collagen Induction Therapy, also known as Medical Needling stimulates the body’s own natural collagen repair and growth processes to significantly improve skin tone, texture and impurities. Medical needling utilises and enhances the body’s own natural response to healing. A sterile roller with hundreds of tiny 1-3mm microneedles makes tiny pinpricks when passed over the skin. This causes skin cells to make new growth factors, collagen and elastin, which in turn make skin smoother, firmer and more radiant. Unlike some other treatments, it treats the entire face and is gentle enough to be used around the eye area. Results can be visible within a week of treatment. Your skin will progressively improve over the next few months as the healing process that rebuilds your own natural collagen and elastin continues and replaces your damaged tissue. Optimal improvement is seen six months after your treatment course has finished. 3-6 treatments are needed.
