Skin incisions are placed within the mouth or are hidden in the chin crease. The procedure is done under local anaesthesia and light sedation. An overnight stay might be necessary.

Common to all surgical procedures there are always risks associated with surgery. However, complications are uncommon. Mild discomfort is expected for the first 3 – 5 days. Bruising is uncommon and may take 7 to 10 days to resolve, while major bleeding is rare. Infection is infrequent and will require a course of appropriate antibiotics. Hypertrophic or keloid scarring is also rare but will require specific treatments to reduce the scarring.

Light activities can commence from the first day after the surgery with full recovery within a week. Your looks will improve gradually during the following 2-3 weeks.

Skin care and sun protection are necessary during the recovery period. Results are long-term and there is always the choice to remove the implant if you wish to do so.
