MEET THE DOCTOR
DR. MED. ILIANA STROUTHOU
Dr. med. Strouthou grew up in Larnaca, Cyprus. From a very early age, she expressed her love for Medicine which she turned into a life goal.
After graduating from basic education she moved to Leipzig, Germany following her dream. She studied at the Medical School of the University of Leipzig – Universität Leipzig, the second oldest continuous University in Germany.
She majored in Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery at major University and Private Hospitals in Germany, such as the University Hospital of Leipzig, the Clinic of Aesthetic Surgery and Breast Center at Schwerin and the Clinic of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery St. Georg in Leipzig, which holds certifications as a Hand Trauma and Replantation Center by HTC / FESSH (Hand Trauma Committee of the European Societies for Surgery of the Hand). There she was given the opportunity to be trained in the most modern techniques of aesthetic, reconstructive and microsurgery by world-renowned scientists.
She holds a Doctorate after completing her research on “Role of bone morphogenetic protein 7 (BMP – 7) in appetite regulation and adipogenesis” in collaboration with the obesity center of the University of Leipzig.
Her practical experience began with postbariatric surgery in patients after surgical and non-surgical treatment of morbid obesity as well as in the surgical removal of skin cancers.
After that she specialized in face and breast aesthetic surgeries but also in breast reconstruction, where she developed a special interest in breast reconstruction after cancer.
She had the opportunity to be trained in specialized Breast Reconstruction surgeries both with implants and through microsurgical procedures with autologous tissues. During her training, she worked in a burn center where the treatment of burns and their consequences were at the center of her daily work.
In parallel with her activities, she completed her studies in Nutritional Medicine at the BTB Institute in Germany.
Dr. med. Strouthou holds a DAS (German Society of Senology) certificate, which is given after training and examinations by breast cancer treatment and rehabilitation specialists.
She takes an active part in multiple conferences a year as she considers that continuously keeping up to date with the latest information on the most modern methods in plastic surgery is an obligation but also a precondition for the provision of treatments to her patients.
She is an active member of DGPRÄG (German Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery), DGCH (German Society of Surgery), ISAPS (International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery) and DAS (German Society of Senology).
After 16 years of residence in Germany, she decided to return to her hometown in Cyprus, where she has been offering her services as a plastic surgeon since March 2020.
Since January 1st 2021 Dr. med Strouthou has also been appointed Head of the Department of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus, which is based in Limassol. Additionally, she continues her practice at her clinic in Larnaca and also at the European Institute of Plastic Surgery in Nicosia.
